Storyteller archetype quiz to discover your writing style

Hot Mess Goddess Press is the intentional publishing arm of the Hot Mess Goddess universe, where words carry consequence, and stories are forces that shape identity, behaviour, and belief.

We publish work that breaks inherited narratives, expands consciousness, and refuses the self-erasing myths culture has taught women to live inside.

Why we publish

HMG Press exists to publish work rooted in lived truth, with books that reclaim language, reframe identity, and change how we think, speak, and live.

We believe:

  • Language is the operating system of our life. What you say to yourself, what you allow others to seek over you, and what stories go unchallenged in your mind quietly become the world you live inside.

  • Everything you consume (including the books you read) leaves a mark.

  • Publishing is a practice of refinement, discipline, and spiritual honesty, not ego amplification.

What we publish

We publish a small, considered list of books rooted in lived experience and intellectual integrity.

We’re drawn to writing that understands the impact words have on identity, behaviour, and self-trust

Our catalogue includes work that explores personal transformation, identity, belief, language, and spiritual practice — from memoir and personal growth, to original methodologies, reflective tools, and devotional writing.

We are interested in longevity over trends — books designed to be returned to, underlined, and lived with over time.

For Authors

We occasionally consider a small number of aligned authors.

We work with writers who:

  • have lived what they are writing

  • respect the impact their words can have

  • are committed to depth, integrity, and craft

  • understand that a book is more than a just business card

If you feel a genuine resonance with this press, you’re welcome to introduce yourself. Please include a short description of your work and why you feel it aligns with HMG Press.

Our Approach

We take a hands-on, highly intentional approach to publishing alongside our authors. We value reader experience, and with an editor at the helm (who happens to be obsessed with the neuroscience of language), we make sure the right words, placed well, have a greater impact than hype ever could.

The Little Dictionary of Reclaimed Words (Vol. 1), launches soon — a poetic lexicon of twisted words and their liberated truths.

Abracadabra, Bitch! is due mid 2026.

From spellbooks to story collections, HMG Press is where language becomes legacy.

For Readers

If you’re drawn to books that make you pause, question, and listen more closely to your own inner language, you’ll feel at home here.

They are companions, designed to meet you differently each time you return. Margin notes, highlights and dog ears are encouraged here.

About The Founder

Created by author and editor Sally Jane Friday, Hot Mess Goddess Press is built on lived experience, the kind that splits you open and rebuilds you stronger.
SJ works with every project personally, honouring voice, shaping message, and protecting the integrity of the work.

This press is for multi-passionate women who’ve walked through fire and emerged with messy hair and a fierce heart.

Here we reclaim our words, and turn our stories into legacies. If you’re ready to share your story or rewrite the ending, we’ll hand you the mic, the pen, the tools and the community to #RewriteYourWorld.
